Southern
Corporation
(A Professional Compressed Air Energy Auditing
Company)
Southern
Corporation
is a name that has been retained for two generations providing two
distinctly different services. Originally the firm was founded as
a Manufacturers' Representative Agency selling chemical process
equipment in ten Southern States from Louisiana to Virginia with more
than 20 employees. Sales ranged from $10MM - $25MM annually.
Firms represented by Southern Corporation included Dow Chemical, Wallace
Murray, ITT Fabri
Valve, Century Instrument, Monsanto, and many others. |
Robert B. Laine
II, current owner of the firm, began fine-tuning his understanding
and interest in complex technologies through the study of
Aeronautical Engineering curricula while attending North Carolina
State University, 1960-1964. His career began as an
engineering draftsman at Rockwell Manufacturing, 1965-1966.
Beginning in 1966 he accepted a sales/marketing position with
Southern Corporation where he covered the territory of South Georgia
and the peninsula of Florida calling on the paper and phosphate
industries through 1978.
In 1972 he purchased a
portion of Southern Corporation, was elected President in 1978, and
continued to purchase portions of the firm until he attained 100% ownership
in 1985. He managed the overall operations of the firm from 1978 until
the agency was sold in 1994.
Today, Southern
Corporation is focused 100% on auditing of compressed air systems and does
not function as a manufacturers' representative of any firm.
Robert developed an interest in helping existing customers with their
compressed air systems in the early 1990's, which was the beginning of his
education in the technology. Seriously focusing on learning beginning in
1992 he continued essentially on his own until he developed a relationship
with Scot Foss, owner and President of Plant Air Technology in 1994.
Ultimately Scot Foss became his tutor and mentor. Robert has been a
Senior Auditor for Plant Air Technology since 1997. More recently he
has been functioning under the banner of Southern Corporation but continues
with a very close working relationship with Scot.
